So last night, Bethany, LeighAna, and I got hungry around 1 A.M. so we headed on down to Times Square and went to McDonald's. The city literally never sleeps. It was so bright, it looked like a second sun. This morning, we went to a place called TrimLab; they have been with companies like Tory Burch and Liz Claiborne from the beginning. They provided them with their zippers and unique trims they needed in order to stand out. DVF was also in the same building as TrimLab so that was pretty cool to be in the presence of that. After TrimLab, we went to the lower east side to Maryam Nassir Zadeh's retail store. The aesthetic was amazing; it was the kind of aesthetic I planned for my retail store concept. I LOVED all of her shoes. They are almost a vertical integration company. They support about 10 small designers as well as creating Maryam's own brand. They also have interns who spend a lot of time in the showroom (yes, please). We then headed back to the Garment District to M&S Schmalberg, the last standing domestic producer of fabric flowers. Their flowers have been featured with brands such as Chanel, Vera Wang, and many more. We were offered a student discount, so I can now say I am the proud owner of a fabric flower from M&S! We had lunch at Cafe Del Sol; sushi wasn't good, but everything else was pretty much. Our last appointment of the day was with Pink Chicken. This place was so cool. There are two ladies who do basically everything, they design bohemian/preppy childrens clothing and mommy+me clothing. They create their own prints and patterns and like to put a vintage vibe to them, which I loved. They recently made a deal with Target, and their line, Happy by Pink Chicken will be availble online. So cute. We went to the Broadway show, Wicked, at Gershwin Theatre and were free afterwards to do our own thing. Five of us went to this diner called Tick Tock, it is located in the New Yorker Hotel (built in 1916). The hotel was beautiful, it had a mixed vibe of the 20s and the 50s. I had the best vanilla shake IN THE WORLD and a tuna salad sandwich. We rode the Subway back to the hotel, changed, and went for a leisurely stroll through Times Square. We met a couple guys from Germany, of which Katy gave her business card to. All my friends are so brave. Haha. Today was a good day, tomorrow is supposed to be warm so I am excited for that.
