So, because Jocelyn and I’s Romania plans fell through at the last minute due to political reasons sadly, we had to find some ways to keep us busy this weekend while the rest of the troop was in Florence. Yesterday, we went to Castello Sforzesco for the second time, explored the castle grounds and beautiful park with a cute pond and duckies. At the end of the park is the Arco della Pace, basically the gate of Milan. It faces towards Paris, representing Napoleon’s reign of Italy. We also walked 10 miles yesterday, so that was an accomplishment in itself. Today, we bought a 24-hour metro pass. Today just happened to be FREE ENTRY TO MUSEUMS SUNDAY. Every first Sunday of the month, multiple museums around Milan are free to get into, two of my favorite things: MUSEUMS and FREE. Our first stop was Castello Sforzesco…again…I’m telling you, I love this place. There are many museums within the castle walls. I saw giant tapestries bigger than my apartment, iron swords, too many violins to count, a mummy, beautiful paintings, furniture from every century, OH YEAH, AND MICHELANGELO’S LAST SCULPTURE BEFORE HIS DEATH, THE RONDANINI PIETA. Our next stop was at the Palazzo Morando where they were showing a Manolo Blahnik exhibit. An incredible amount of art (or shoes, depending on your definition of art) was on display. His original sketches and the tallest boots I have ever seen were on display as well. Our last stop was the Museo Archeologico, located in an old convent, the Monastery of San Maurizio Maggiore. *we also stopped for donuts on the way home*
I really hope that I am in town on the next first Sunday of the month so I can go to all the other museums that are in this wonderful city.
